Temescal Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council
The Temescal NCPC steering committee meets the third Wednesday
of every month at the local Faith Presbyterian Church, 49th
and Webster Street. Everyone welcome. Call 420-6974 for more
information.
A recent victory is the shutting down of the Bird Kage on
Telegraph Avenue, which had become a locus of many crimes.
At a recent meeting, Temescal's NCPC Steering Committee listed
the following as its top crime priorities for Lt. Lawrence
Green of the Oakland Police Department, and his officers,
to focus on:
* Drug dealing in the Shattuck Avenue corridor from 48th
Street to beyond 51st Street;
* Pedestrian robberies in the vicinity of the MacArthur
BART station, especially during evening commute hours;
* Along Webster Street from 40th to 45th Street, a man
on a bicycle, armed with a handgun, carried out three robberies
in one evening in late January 2003.
Thieves have been targetting people with laptop computers
who are walking from either the Rockridge or MacArthur BART
station; so be alert, take well-lighted streets, and if possible,
walk with others.
Bring your concerns and ideas to the next NCPC Steering Committee.
